Val Quinn was born Valerie Lewis on the 13th July 1945 in Portchester, Hampshire, England, the second child of Dennis (Tom) and Frieda Lewis.

Val followed her motherís footsteps and became a nurse, doing her training from 1963 till 1967 at Southampton General Hospital and her physic training at Knowle Psychiatric Hospital. She then worked in these hospitals until her marriage in 1968.

After her marriage Val moved to the Weybridge area of Surrey and worked as Charge Nurse at Weybridge Hospital and St Peterís Hospital, Chertsey.

On her return was appointed Clinical Manager at Ngairo Marsh Hospital, then in late 2000 became Nurse Manager at Lady King Hospital.

In June 2003 commissioned a new 26 bed hospital at Bishop Selwyn Lifecare Centre and stayed there for five months.

In October 2003 was relieving Nurse Manager at St. Allisa Rest home until April 2004 when she retired (one of many retirements) to go on a trip to UK, Greece and Egypt.

On her return, was persuaded to take job as Hospital Manager at Kate Sheppard Retirement village. This continued until it was sold in 2005 when Val retired again.

This retirement lasted about a month when she was again "persuaded" to temporary take job as manager at Windsor House Rest Home for six month period..
